From Our Office: The Women Of The Product Team Vol.1
The Production Team at Goorin HQ is one of the most vital teams to highlight because they quite literally design and produce the hats that end up at your doorstep and on your head. Without them, we'd have no hats! I had the pleasure of asking some Q&A to the bad-ass women that run our product team. Here is Anjelica:

Q: Who is the most influential woman in your life?
A: My mom – She is constantly learning and standing up for the good in the world despite her hardships. I admire her and value her encouragement so much. She’s never been much of a hat person, but she always told me that I look great in hats and that I could wear any hat I wanted.

Q: What strengths do you admire most about the women around you?
A: Their drive, perseverance, and creativity. I keep in touch with many women I went to college with and am always so excited to see them opening up a new shop, pursuing a new career or starting a new hobby. It is so cool to see my peers being bad ass women.

Q: Who are some of your favorite creatives?
A: Dua Lipa is one of my favorite humans. She does it all, is kind and uplifts those around her. I am always inspired by her work she puts out. She just created her own podcast, Dua Lipa: At Your Service, where she interviews other creatives in the fields of music, fashion and literature. It is my favorite thing to listen to on Monday mornings.
Rachel Metz – I’m really into watching DIY videos on YouTube right now. Rachel bought a 5 acre property in Joshua Tree last year and since has been making videos on her channel, Living to DIY, with her and her cool lady friends demo-ing, renovating and decorating her property. It really makes me want to buy a ranch somewhere and do the same.
Susan Goldie – Susan was my former boss when I was in college. I taught sewing lessons to kids and teens and Susan ran the studio I taught at. Susan recently closed the studio during COVID and has been pursuing a range of creative ventures including fabric painting, felting, abstract art and currently developing her own SP22 capsule collection. She is so motivating to never stop trying, always keep learning and to stay curious.
Q: What does a day-in-the-life look like for you?
A: Jacquelyn and I share an office so first thing we do is light a candle, our current fave is Mrs. Meyers Iowa Pine. We also usually take turns playing music which can range between 1970s Rock to Whitney Houston to Tame Impala. Then its emails & hats for the rest of the day – I spend the mornings catching up with all our vendors who make our product, follow up on sampling questions and aid our cross functional teams with their questions about products etc. Afternoons usually include checking in new samples arriving and meetings with our vendors. I am usually first one to touch the new samples, measure, make comments to our vendors and review them with our other designers. There’s also usually a run to get chai lattes at some point in the day as well.
Q: What has been one of your favorite designs you’ve seen come to fruition?
A: The swirls! – I’ve designed some of the swirl fedoras this past year and it has been really exciting seeing them made and seeing people wearing them. Some swirls I’ve designed are the Dean the Great Swirls, Wallflower and upcoming Wavy and Billie Nova.

Q: What details of a hat are you drawn to most?
A: The bands are a super fun aspect of the hat. You can really be creative with the bands you use and sometimes simple is better depending on the base of the hat. I also love how a change to the band and the entire feel of the hat changes.

Q: How often does the design of the hat change from initial sketch to final product?
A: I would say most hats typically have several adjustments from initial design to final product. There are many factors in place when developing product and things like shortages, supply chain issues, or even the sample not coming out as expected can adjust the hat. Despite any bumps, we are always able to turn out a great product in the end.

Q: What keeps you inspired in and out of the workplace?
A: I get a lot of inspiration from TV Shows and Architecture. When I’m walking down the street, some colorful street art or details of a building can usually catch my eye and I take a quick picture. As a millennial, I am obsessed with the show Euphoria and found lots of inspiration from the fashion, makeup and cinematography of the show. Whatever interests me, I take a photo or screenshot and add it to a mood board.

Q: How does it feel to be a woman in this field?
A: It is interesting because I went to a fashion college and attended it with mostly women, however I still feel overlooked at times as woman in this industry. I’ve learned you must speak up and speak your mind. Because if you don’t, someone else will. Communication is huge; voicing your opinion when you have one and always pushing for what you want in your career.
